Dates for your diary

Further to my previous post regarding the Sainsbury's planning application I can advise that Sainsbury’s will be holding two public exhibitions, on Friday the 15th of April from 12 midday to 4.30pm, and Saturday the 16th of April from 10am to 3pm, in The Moorings Hotel, Motherwell. This event will provide you with an opportunity to meet their project team, see the proposed plans, and let them know your views.

Sainsbury's for Motherwell?

A planning application has been lodged today for the vacant site at the bottom of Hamilton Road, but not for houses this time, instead Sainsbury's are seeking permission for what would be their first store in North Lanarkshire.

The proposed development is located on the former bus depot site on Hamilton Road, Motherwell, and is for a new food store with approximately 60,000 sq ft of sales space, and in the region of 500 parking spaces.

The applicants plan to hold public exhibitions in Motherwell on Friday 15th and Saturday 16th April. This will be a key opportunity for the community of Motherwell to come and ask questions on the proposed development and to find out what Sainsbury's brand might mean for residents of Motherwell and the surrounding areas.

Details are a little scant just now, as the application hasn't turned up on the eplanning section of the website yet, but I will be talking to NLC planners tomorrow. Anyone wishing to inspect the plans should be able to do so on the Council website in the next few days, alternatively you can call one of the planning officers on 01698 274274 and either discuss the application with them or make arrangements to view the plans.

I'll update this as soon as I get further information, in the meantime please don't hesitate to get in touch if you want to raise any issues regarding this with me.

The streets affected are part of Watling Street, part of Fort Street, Chesters Crescent, and Antonine Avenue. NLC staff are working with Scottish Power to get the problem rectified ASAP
